My Great Universal Adventure

I was so nervous. The end was near. I could see the edge right in front of me. I was getting closer, and closer, and closer to my death. Oh well, let me fill you in on what happened so far.

Every six months, I travel to a new place in America. My fondest memory, out of all my trips, started like this: I asked my mom “Where are we going this summer?” My mom said that we were going to Los Angeles, in California. I became very excited right away. From what I knew, Los Angeles is a mega city where many famous people and actors live. Since there was only a week until we had to go, I contributed by looking up some tourist attractions. I kept on scrolling down. I finally found something that made me scream “Yes!” We were going to Universal Studios! I was so excited about the trip that the following week seemed like a blur to me afterwards. The first thing I remember was waking up at five o’clock in the morning to go to the airport. I could smell the fresh air flowing through my window. Surprisingly, there was no noise coming from outside. I guess nobody has woken up yet! Anyway, I quickly packed my travel bag for the plane. After we checked that everything was in place, we were off on the greatest adventure of my life. The trip started with a one-hour taxi ride to the airport. I almost threw up because the dude was driving so fast! It wasn’t such a good start, but we finally got to the airport and boarded our plane.

I don’t remember much about my plane ride; I think I was asleep most of the time. Since I don’t want to bore you by talking about crossword puzzles and books, I’ll just keep going on. I awoke to the beep that the plane makes to signal that we were going to land soon. I looked out the window. Los Angeles looked so awesome in the morning light. I think I almost saw the Hollywood sign! But since we were 9,000 meters above the ground, I couldn’t make sure. Once we landed, the flight attendants opened the door. I felt a gentle breeze that smelled of the ocean. I felt very relaxed because I could finally stretch my legs after such an exhausting flight. Ah… I was in America again. On the first day of my trip, I went to Hollywood Avenue, which was a one-hour drive away from my hotel. We drove past many famous roads, like rodeo drive. On the avenue, I saw the Kodak and Chinese Theatres, a star on the street for everyone famous that I can think about, and Madam Tussaud’s wax statues! I got to take a picture next to weird dudes dressed up as the pink panther, batman, barney, and I even saw a Tomas the train costume! The next few days were boring, boring, boring. All we did was drive around, visit a couple beaches and take a lot of pictures.

Finally the time had come. We were on the freeway, zooming towards my favorite amusement park in the world at high speeds. My hopes were suddenly dashed by a huge screech cause by an abrupt stop of the car. We were in the ticket line! We had no idea that Universal Studios was going to be this crowded, especially since we went on a weekday. We spent almost 4 hours in that devastating line! That just made me much more anxious. But it was worth it, since my dad decided that we should get the front-of-line pass. Yippee! We zoomed around riding rollercoasters, playing carnival games, and most of all, having fun. Best of all, we got the best seats of every ride because we had the express pass. Every time I got on a ride, I started to wonder what the heck I was doing. One Simpson’s ride almost made me throw up again! We made a trip around the park. Some of my favorite rides were the soundstage tour, the tour of mechanics King Kong ride, and the Simpson’s ride, of course. We were really tired when we got to the little kids section. The smell of buttered popcorn and sweet cotton candy filled the air. Every shop was filled with these cheesy toy story hats, or Dr. Seuss tee shirts. My mom made me accompany my little sister on many of the rides. This particular memory shines really brightly in my head:
“Dennis, please take your sister on the Winnie-the-Pooh merry-go-round.”
“Sorry mom, I’m too big for that”
“No, your sister wants to go on the merry-go-round, so you will take her on the merry-go-round!”
“No mom, please!”
“Take her on now!”
“Okay, okay…”

Next time, I will never ever enter the kid’s land again.
My mom made me ride a bunch of cheesy little kid rides, like the Elmo train and the hello kitty slide. After that big waste of time, I didn’t feel like doing anything anymore.
“Attack!” I yelled as I jumped into the winter wonderland. That caught everyone by surprise! Everyone started throwing huge balls of ice around, and soon everyone was covered in bits of snow. That was one of the highlights of the kid area. There was real snow, a huge snowman, and everything that made the place feel like Antarctica. It was so cold, I had to put my jacket on; it was 35 degrees outside! Afterwards, I saw this gigantic roller coaster. I wanted to go on it so badly that I didn’t think about the risks. The attendant just buckled me in when I saw something that freaked me out. The cart in front of us was creeping slowly towards the slopes. Suddenly, with a “whoosh!” it disappeared. I finally realized why this roller coaster is called the “death drop!” “AHHHH” I yelled as I rolled closer to my death.

So this brings me back to the beginning. “AHHHHHHH” I screamed as
So this concludes my lesson learned: always think about something before you actually do it. I had to learn this lesson the hard way; I almost threw up!
